Snow shoes, Trentino, December 2009

It is winter time, so I took a trip to the snow. It didn’t look that good when we entered the Val di Sole: positive temperatures and no snow at all… But when we arrived in Cogolo, there was already some snow. And Giulio (the guide) of course knew the spots with the best, the deepest snow. And at the end of the second day, we got fresh snow, about every day or night. Until the end of the week, when temperatures started rising and rain started falling…

It has been a special trip. The snow was the prettiest, most enjoyable that I’ve ever had. Because it was quite deep, it was also quite an effort, certainly when making the track: not an easy task when you sink deeper than your knees into the snow. The last day we also had a few small avalanches, on our track, at the utmost an hour after we passed there… On the last pictures you can still see the remnants of one of the avalanches.

There wasn’t that many people in the hotel. Next to our group of 7 there were only 4 Germans the first days. So we adopted them and some integrated very well in our group. In all it was a very Lucied experience, one I will remember for a long time…
