Border crossing Marienborn, July 2011

Marienborn was the most important border crossing for travelling to the DDR (GDR). During our trip to Berlin, 20 years ago, we’ve been queuing a long time at this point. Although the Berlin Wall had already fallen, the BRD and DDR were still two separate countries and there still was a border control.

Now the border crossing is a huge, abandoned space, as a memorial to the division. Especially the emptiness strikes… where it used to busy like a bee hive.
