Eastern State Penitentiary, April 2009

During a business trip to Philadelphia (PA, USA), I had some time left to visit the ‘Eastern State Penitentiary’. An old prison, the first in its kind. Everything was designed to give the prisoners the opportunity to think about what they had done: all contact with others was forbidden, the guards even had extra socks over their shoes, to make no noise at all…

But now the building offers really nice opportunities to do a photo shoot…

Being a business trip, I didn’t have my ‘real’ photo equipment with me (meaning: a dslr). The pictures were shot with a ‘point & shoot’, but one of the better kind (a Panasonic Lumix LX3). In general a good camera, only a lot of noise in scenes with limited light, even at low ISO-values.

PS: the last picture is not of my hotel room. Another (in)famous guy used to stay there: Al Capone.
