Global Rainbow (Leuven), February 2014

These days you can see a special rainbow in Leuven (Belgium): the Global Rainbow, a work by Yvette Mattern. Special because you can also see it when it’s not raining, thanks to seven lasers. And it’s also not really a ‘bow’, the laser beams go straight ahead. When the weather is good, even for 60 kilometers.

According to the Irish legend there as a pot of gold at the beginning (or end) of the rainbow. And in this case it is kind of true: the lasers are located at the new building of IMEC, the research institute that is world-leading in the field of nano-electronics. So an intellectual pot of gold…
